Abstract
Recently, social interest on radiation exposure has been greatly increased since the nuclear disaster, Fukushima, Japan in 2011, and low-dose radiation exposure caused by diagnostic medical imaging has been magnified as one of the major sources of radiation exposure. This is because the number of medical imaging studies such as CT, PET, and gamma scintigraphy performed in medical centers has been explosively increased. The authors reviewed current status of medical imaging, pros and cons of its radiation exposure, and development in technology for minimization of radiation exposure to make a reasonable decision against radiation exposure from diagnostic medical imaging.
